Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and other prominent Democrats are claiming that billionaires pay a lower federal tax rate than teachers, sanitation workers, and nurses.
IN FACT, the average federal tax rate paid by the richest 0.1% of Americans is 2–4 times the rate paid by middle-income households. Studies that claim the wealthy pay a lower rate use deceptive methods that don’t measure all taxes divided by all income.
