U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D–CT) claims that “immigrants commit crimes at a lower rate than natural born Americans” and that the “Republicans fear campaign about immigrants” is “based upon bad information and prejudice.”
IN FACT, legal immigrants commit crimes at much lower rates than the general public because immigration law requires them to be thoroughly vetted for criminality. In contrast, illegal immigrants commit crimes at far higher rates than the general public.
