In 2017, Politico reported that U.S. Attorney David Weiss delayed a criminal probe into Hunter Biden "to avoid taking any actions that could alert the public to the existence of the case in the middle of a presidential election." Weiss, who was "appointed by Donald Trump on the recommendation of Delaware's two Democratic senators," then let the statute of limitations run out on several tax felonies allegedly committed by Hunter. This and other improprieties prompted two IRS agents to testify to Congress that Weiss and others in Biden's Department of Justice were obstructing the investigation into the Biden family. Weiss also offered Hunter a no-jailtime plea deal that was scuttled by a federal judge over a lack of transparency. Today, Biden's Attorney General, Merrick Garland, appointed Weiss as a Special Counsel to lead this probe.
