Question of the Day

U.S. Border Entries

Since the outset of Joe Biden's presidency, how many people who arrived at the U.S./Mexico border without legal permission to cross it have entered the United States?

Correct Answer

Tell Me More

On his first day in office, Joe Biden canceled an executive order that called for "the faithful execution of the immigration laws of the United States." From that day through March 31, 2023, his administration released into the U.S. at least 2,148,738 people who arrived at the border without legal permission to cross it. These people are commonly let in because they make claims of asylum, which should only allow them to immigrate if they have a "well-founded fear" of racial, religious, social, or political persecution in their homelands. However, Biden has let them in while screening only 6% to see if they have potentially legitimate claims to asylum, and most never leave because deportation laws are rarely enforced. Also, more than 1.7 million known "gotaways" have entered the U.S. on Biden's watch, along with countless undetected entries and a sizeable portion of the 1.2 million migrants who have showed up at the border since March 2023. In total, this is more than 4 million people.
