Do more people in the U.S. report consuming alcohol or marijuana on a daily basis?

Correct Answer

Tell Me More

Based on scientific nationally representative surveys, a recent study in the journal "Addiction" found that 17.7 million U.S. residents report consuming marijuana on a daily or near-daily basis. This is 20% higher than the 14.7 million people who report using alcohol in this manner. The study also found that 42% of all admitted marijuana users consume it on a daily or near-daily basis, or almost four times the 11% rate in 1992. The potency of marijuana has increased dramatically over recent decades, and contrary to popular belief, it is addictive. Regular cannabis usage is strongly associated with cognitive impairment, psychoses, opioid abuse, and other major health problems.
